PANTO IS AN OUTRAGEOUSLY LOVING, ANARCHIC, FULL-BLOWN THEATRICAL EXPLOSION OF GOOD CHEER!

THE PANTO PROJECT

From hilarious blah blha to blha blha, we have spectacular, vivacious productions of JACK & THE BEAN STALK (2017), DICK RIVINGTON AND THE CAT (2019, NYT Critic Pick of the Year), and SLEEPING BEAUTY (2023)!

The Panto Project is a five 5-year commitment to festive family fun! Running from 2017-2023 in partnership with the Henry Street Settlement and with support from Creative Capital, NYSCA, and ChaShaMa, the Panto Project was created for our neighbors, by our neighbors. Highlighting the diverse, artistic excellence of the Lower East Side, the Panto Project uplifts and empowers the voices of our community through high quality-low brow theater that inspires change and makes the world a more magical place!

Pantos are a 300 year old tradition in England and often the largest production of many major UK theaters, generally running during the holiday season. It is our goal to recreate (not reinvent) the magic and fun of the Panto, whilst tailoring it for an American audience. As it is a well loved, tried and tested form, ONEOFUS honors many of the Panto traditions that have brought joy to families during the holidays. ———- hile we subvert, update, and improve some of less inclusive aspects. This fully accessible, all-ages form of theater celebrates our neighborhoods resilience, open-mindedness, and beauty through a joyful and interactive family holiday spectacle that promotes equality in all forms.

New York City needs family theater that is inherently irreverent, lightly political, with the strong theme that - eventually - good triumphs over evil. We believe that everyone, no matter their age or background, deserves to feel that they can be an agent of change in their own lives, and in society at large. By providing a space in which audiences can boo and hiss the villains while cheering and supporting the heroes, we show the power of each of us, and the ultimate power we have when coming together as a community.
